The General Motors Foundation has told Detroit arts and cultural groups, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Music Hall, the Michigan Opera Theatre, and the Detroit Institute of Arts, not to expect money in 2009, reports the Detroit Free Press.

Rod Gillum, the company’s vice president for corporate responsibility and diversity, confirmed that the loss to those groups would be more than $1-million. He declined to cite more specific figures but agreed that any organization previously supported by GM should be making contingency plans.

The foundation is financed entirely by the General Motors company and does not have a separate endowment, reports the newspaper.
