The Haiti earthquake has unleashed an unprecedented outpouring of charity music efforts that goes well beyond the mega-hit remakes of “We Are the World” and “Everybody Hurts,” reports the Associated Press.
Along with those star-studded singles overseen by the impresarios Quincy Jones and Simon Cowell, respectively, Haiti-relief records have included the albums Hope for Haiti Now and Download to Donate for Haiti; a Spanish-language “We Are the World” featuring Latino artists; “Stranded (Mon Amour Haiti),” a collaboration among the rapper Jay-Z, the rhythm-and-blues singer Rihanna, and U2′s Bono and The Edge; the Pearl Jam leader Eddie Vedder’s version of Bruce Springsteen’s “My City of Ruins”; and tracks featuring casts of gospel and reggae stars.
