Two new reports offer glimmers of optimism in fund raising for health-care charities as the economy recovers, according to American Medical News, an arm of the American Medical Association.
Health groups reported slightly better results for 2010 than nonprofits as a whole in a survey of more than 1,800 charities by the Nonprofit Research Collaborative. Forty-six percent of medical organizations said donations rose last year, compared with 43 percent for all nonprofits. In a survey of 459 fund raisers by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, 71 percent said the economy had a very or somewhat negative impact on donations in 2010, compared with 85 percent the previous year and 84 percent in 2008.
