Hollywood Actor and Friends Create New Fund-Raising Tool

May 13, 2010, 2:23 pm

The actor Edward Norton and several friends have created a new social-media tool that gives people a free way to create their own fund-raising pages to share through social networks, according to Reuters.

The new tool, called Crowdrise, developed from Mr. Norton’s experiences using Twitter to help him raise $1.2-million for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust when he ran New York’s marathon last year.

“People use Twitter or Facebook because it’s a way to share their personal narrative, but we wanted to give people a platform to say, These are the causes I care about, I am volunteering, and sponsor me,” Mr. Norton told the news service in an interview.
