IBM Ranks First in New Tally of Most Civic-Minded Companies

A robust community-service program that saw IBM employees rack up 3.2 million hours of volunteering last year helped land the technology firm the No. 1 ranking in a new scorecard of the most community-minded U.S. corporations, writes Bloomberg Businessweek.

Citigroup, AT&T, Aetna, and Capital One rounded out the top five in the Civic 50, compiled by Bloomberg LP, the National Conference on Citizenship, and civic-engagement group Points of Light.

The list rates companies on how they use their time, talent, and resources to improve the quality of life in their local communities and elsewhere, on the basis of partnerships, employee involvement, transparency, and other measures.
