A U.S. charity that supports human rights and civil society groups in Israel has come under fire from Israeli conservatives who link it to a highly critical United Nations report on the 2007 war in Gaza, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The New Israel Fund, in Washington, distributes about $15-million a year to organizations in Israel, including several that promote Palestinian rights. Im Tirtzu, a self-described Zionist organization, has led a public-relations campaign criticizing the fund for its grantees’ cooperation with the United Nations’ Goldstone Commission, which issued a report on the Gaza fighting that accused both Israel and the militant Palestinian group Hamas of war crimes.
