Jewish Women’s Group Probes Fraud Claims Against Leaders

February 8, 2012, 9:58 am

The international Jewish women’s charity Hadassah has launched an internal probe of allegations that its current and former president misused organization funds, according to The Jewish Daily Forward.

The accusations against the group’s national president, Marcie Natan, and her predecessor, Nancy Falchuk, were made last month in a letter to board members from Larry Blum, the group’s chief operating officer. Mr. Blum himself is on administrative leave while Hadassah examines claims that he misused a corporate credit card.

In the letter, Mr. Blum alleged that Ms. Natan used Hadassah resources to provide favors to members who supported her presidential candidacy last year, including flight upgrades and extensions of business trips. He also claimed that Ms. Falchuk moved thousands of dollars worth of furniture from a Hadassah-owned apartment to her own home and charged personal expenses to a corporate card.

Hadassah has established a special committee, led by a former head of the charities bureau of the New York State attorney general’s office, to examine the allegations against Ms. Natan and Ms. Falchuk. They, as well as Mr. Blum, declined the Forward’s requests for comment.
