Lance Armstrong Cuts Last Official Link With Livestrong

November 12, 2012, 10:44 am

Lance Armstrong has resigned from the board of his namesake foundation, severing his last formal tie with the charity he founded 15 years ago after surviving testicular cancer, Bloomberg writes. The foundation, widely known as Livestrong, said Sunday that Nov. 4 was Mr. Armstrong’s last official day as a board member.

The cyclist stepped down as the foundation’s chairman last month after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released a detailed report on its inquiry into alleged cheating by the seven-time Tour de France champion. Mr. Armstrong has repeatedly denied doping but dropped his challenge to the charges, leading to the loss of his seven Tour de France titles.

“Lance decided to resign from the board of the foundation to spare it any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding his cycling career,” Livestrong spokeswoman Katherine McLane said.
