Hugh Hawkins, the winner of the largest lottery ever paid out in Iowa, said he and his wife plan to use some of their winnings to establish a foundation to make grants that will support start-up nonprofit organizations, reports the Associated Press. Mr. Hawkins’s personal debts led him to file for bankruptcy protection last May. He chose on Tuesday to accept the one-time lump payment of $54.7-million from lottery officials, half of the $113.2-million Powerball jackpot winnings for December 14.
