Boston University announced on Thursday an $18-million gift from Sumner Redstone, executive chairman of CBS and Viacom who once taught at the university, according to The Boston Globe.
A chunk of the gift to the School of Law will support construction of a new classroom building named for the media mogul, a Boston native who received an honorary law degree from the university in 1994 and crafted one of the country’s first courses in entertainment law while serving on its faculty.
Mr. Redstone is also the parent of a BU law graduate and for more than 30 years has sponsored a film festival showcasing work by campus students.
