Metal Star Blasts Bono and Geldof for Publicizing Cause Work

February 3, 2010, 2:58 pm

In an interview with an Australian newspaper, the frontman for the famed heavy-metal band AC/DC took a shot at Bono’s and Bob Geldof’s highly public activism, the Times reports.

The singer Brian Johnson told Melbourne’s Herald Sun that he gives to charity, but “I don’t tell everybody I’m doing it.” He chided his fellow rock stars for campaigning for causes from the concert stage.

“I don’t tell everybody they should give money — they can’t afford it,” Mr. Johnson said. “I’m sorry, mate. Do it yourself, spend some of your own money, and get it done.”
