Modern-Dance Groups in N.Y. Promised Disaster Money

December 27, 2012, 11:48 am

A modest effort led by a New York dance organization will help storm-battered modern dance troupes there, reports The New York Times.

In early January, Dance/NYC, which supports dance groups in the city, will send checks of $1,000 to $5,000 to companies, choreographers, and theaters affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The Mertz Gilmore Foundation is providing $200,000 for the grants, which can be used to repair or replace damaged sets or pay fees to artists whose shows were canceled because of the storm.
