‘Multibillion-Dollar’ Settlement Near in Madoff-Picower Case

May 4, 2010, 7:00 am

The Bernard Madoff bankruptcy trustee is closing in on a settlement with the estate of the philanthropist and longtime Madoff investor Jeffry Picower, Bloomberg reports.

In a May 3 ruling. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Burton Lifland blocked two individual investors from suing the Picower estate because their claims could interfere with a looming deal that would distribute what the judge called a “multibillion-dollar sum” to victims of Mr. Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the settlement will pay out $2-billion to Madoff victims.
