Museums Take Silent Auctions Online

June 16, 2008, 1:06 pm

Several museums are adding an online component to their traditional silent-auction events, at which visitors to their collections make bids on pieces of art, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Among them is the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston, which included an online preview to its Summer Party fund-raising event. And the Whitney Museum of American Art, in New York, is taking online bids for some of the artworks it is selling at its Whitney Art Party this week.

In its story, the Journal highlights several of the items being auctioned by the Whitney.
