A regionally prominent Northwest musician was charged with wire fraud Tuesday in connection with an alleged scam to raise money for a star-studded album to raise money for charity, says The Seattle Times.

Prosecutors said Kasey Anderson, who fronts Portland, Ore.-based alternative-country band Kasey Anderson and the Honkies, raised more than $525,000 for an ostensible album to help cover legal costs for the “West Memphis Three,” three men whose questionable convictions in a 1993 Arkansas murder case became a cause célèbre among musicians and other celebrities. The men were released last year.

Mr. Anderson allegedly told investors the record would feature songs Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and other superstar acts, but no album emerged and the project lost $370,000.
