While new tools such as smartphones and social networks have made giving unprecedentedly convenient, they can have significant drawbacks for both donors and charities, The Wall Street Journal writes. Low ceilings for gifts made through social media, such as Facebook’s $25 maximum, and the fees some social sites for processing these relatively small contributions can make for inefficient giving, Patrick Rooney, executive director of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, tells the newspaper.
