News Organizations Turn to Nonprofit Groups for Investigative Work

Major news organizations are increasingly hiring outside help to research and report investigative stories, turning to nonprofit newsrooms such as ProPublica and the Center for Public Integrity, according to The Washington Post

The Post‘s media writer, Howard Kurtz, notes there have been recent collaborations between nonprofit outlets and major media like The New York Times, Financial Times, ABC News, and his own newspaper. As the newsroom staffs dwindle in size, many companies are looking to share the expense of investigative reporting, Mr. Kurtz writes.
