Robert R. Sprague, a leader in the savings and loan industry and a supporter of education and culture in Southern California, died earlier this month of cancer at age 92, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Mr. Sprague built housing tracts throughout the Los Angeles area before founding the Pioneer Savings and Loan Association in 1943. A former president of the United States Savings and Loan League, he was a major benefactor of the University of California at Irvine, focusing on the school’s health-care programs.
