William F. May, a co-founder of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, died September 18 of congestive heart failure in Greenwich. Conn, reports The New York Times. He was 95.

In 1967 Mr. May, longtime head of the American Can Company, was elected to the board of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts with a mandate to raise money to create a film society for the New York institution. In 1969 by Mr. May and two other Lincoln Center executives created the society.

Mr. May was also dean of the graduate school of business administration at New York University and chairman of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, and he served on the board of New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
