Okla. Attorney General Opens Formal Investigation of Charity

April 12, 2010, 1:02 pm

Oklahoma’s attorney general has opened an investigation of the charity Feed the Children to examine how the nonprofit organization’s board and its ousted former president handled the group’s finances, according to The Oklahoman.

The investigation is the latest development in a series of lawsuits concerning the Oklahoma City charity. Charity officials have accused the group’s former president, Larry Jones, of taking bribes, misspending charity funds, hiding pornographic magazines at the organization’s offices, and installing hidden recording devices, among other accusations.

Mr. Jones has denied any wrongdoing and has accused the charity’s officials of declining to pay taxes on purchases, lying about the charity’s fund-raising efforts in Haiti, mismanaging the charity’s savings accounts, and improperly firing whistleblowers.
