An anonymous bidder ponied up $3.46-million in the final moments of Warren Buffett’s annual charity lunch auction to win a meal with the billionaire investor and philanthropist, says Bloomberg.
The top offer almost tripled in the closing seconds, which ended Friday after a week of online bidding. Proceeds from the auction benefit Glide, a San Francisco charity providing meals and health services in the city’s Tenderloin district.
The final bid set a Buffett lunch record for the third straight year, topping last year’s winner by more than $800,000. The unidentified winner and up to seven companions will get to dine with Mr. Buffett at a New York steakhouse.
Since its inception in 2000, the event has raised more than $14.6-million for Glide. Mr. Buffett’s late wife, Susan, was a volunteer for the church-based charity.
