San Diego Classical Group Files for Bankruptcy

December 12, 2012, 8:40 am

San Diego’s Orchestra Nova has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and will cease operations, citing financial instability from the failure of protracted labor talks and the resulting cancellation of its season, writes The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The 29-year-old chamber orchestra sought to switch musicians from yearlong to concert-by-concert contracts, a move that the players’ union resisted. Artistic director and conductor Jung-Ho Pak resigned over the impasse in October, two days before the scheduled start of the group’s 2012-13 season.
