Sandy Show Ticket Scalping Prompts Call for Resale Crackdown

December 7, 2012, 10:25 am

Amid online protests over huge markups on tickets for next week’s Superstorm Sandy benefit concert in New York, Senator Charles Schumer is asking major brokers to prohibit the resale of the tickets or arrange for the profits to aid relief efforts, The Wall Street Journal writes.

The New York Democrat sent a letter Thursday to secondary sales sites such as StubHub, where scalpers are offering tickets for the sold-out December 12 show for several times their original face value.

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman also called on StubHub to provide details of its pledge to donate profits from its fees on ticket resales for the “121212″ event to the Robin Hood Foundation, which is sponsoring the concert. StubHub has said it would not block resellers from offering 121212 tickets on its site.

The show will feature Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, and other superstars.
