The Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth has ordered one of the nation’s largest “Santa groups” to stop soliciting charitable contributions because it has failed to register to seek donations, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Amid months of infighting among members of the Amalgamated Santas, which was formed in 1994 as a network for Santa impersonators, some of the group’s members complained to the state attorney general’s office in Kentucky that the organization’s bookkeeping was inaccurate and that money was missing from its accounts. The complaints were forwarded to the Charitable Organizations Bureau in Pennsylvania, where the Amalgamated Santas have headquarters.
An official of the charity said the group is working with the state agency to deal with its concerns.
