Seattle Is Most Generous U.S. City, New Ranking Says

December 10, 2010, 12:19 pm

Seattle is the most charitable city in the United States, according to rankings compiled by The Daily Beast.

The online magazine said the Pacific Northwest city does well in part because it is the home of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, but it also measured well in other ways to gauge generosity: dollars donated by local foundations, household giving as a percentage of adjusted gross income, and time volunteered by residents.

San Francisco, Kansas City, Atlanta, and Dallas rounded out the top five.
