The Bullitt Foundation is planning a new headquarters in Seattle that would set the regional standard for being environmentally friendly, according to The Seattle Times.
The foundation’s proposed Cascadia Center for Sustainable Design and Construction would generate as much power as it consumes, rely exclusively on rain for its water, and recycle urine to fertilize plants in an interior greenhouse. The design, to be considered by a city review board Wednesday, aims to satisfy the Cascadia Region Green Building Council’s Living Building Challenge, considered the world’s toughest sustainability standard.
The $90-million foundation focuses on environmental issues and sustainable design. “We were talking a good game, but we wanted to walk our talk,” said Denis Hayes, Bullitt’s president.
