‘Sesame Street’ Launches Drive to Pass 1 Billion Video Views

February 15, 2013, 10:37 am

Nearing 1 billion views on its seven-year-old YouTube channel, Sesame Street released a new video Thursday urging viewers to make the final 20 million clicks, says the Associated Press.

The milestone click will make the iconic educational show, produced by the nonprofit Sesame Workshop, the first charitable or children’s media entity to reach the 1 billion mark and will unlock a “top-secret video.”

Launched on public television in 1970, the show has significantly expanded its presence online and on mobile devices, allowing families to view content multiple times. “It blows me away to think about how popular and strong a platform [YouTube] has become for us,” said Terry Fitzpatrick, a Sesame Workshop executive vice president.
