Professional soccer club Sporting Kansas City and Livestrong have dissolved a naming-rights agreement for the team’s stadium that was to have paid the cancer foundation up to $7.5-million over six years, according to The Kansas City Star and Fox Sports.

The Major League Soccer franchise said Tuesday that it was cutting ties with the charity less than two years into an agreement that saw the team’s home field christened Livestrong Sporting Park. It will now be simply Sporting Park.

The deal, hailed at its March 2011 signing as an innovation in stadium naming rights, called for Sporting KC to funnel ticket, concession, and souvenir revenue to the charity founded by cyclist Lance Armstrong. In announcing the move, the team made no mention of Mr. Armstrong or of the doping to which he admitted Monday in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, saying it arose from a dispute with Livestrong over how much money the club owed it for 2012.
