Tech Mogul’s $13-Million Gift to Support U. of Utah Impact-Investing Center

January 30, 2013, 10:38 am

The University of Utah’s Eccles School of Business will launch a center devoted to studying and promoting impact investment with a $13-million donation from technology entrepreneur James Lee Sorenson, Bloomberg writes.

The center will be named for the donor, the founder of Sorenson Communications, a video-relay-service provider that is Utah’s biggest technology company. Students will conduct research on applying free enterprise to advance social and environmental goals, help socially minded entrepreneurs develop business plans, and present impact-investment opportunities to Mr. Sorenson’s foundation.
