Ticket Resellers Draw Heat Over Markups for Sandy Benefit

Online ticket broker StubHub has pledged a share of its profits from resale of tickets to a star-studded Superstorm Sandy benefit concert to charity amid complaints from fans over huge markups on the seats, reports The Wall Street Journal. Tickets for the “121212 Concert for Sandy Relief” at Madison Square Garden, which sold out in minutes at prices ranging from $150 to $2,500, were listed at up to $9,000 on the site Tuesday.

The markups for the December 12 show, which will feature Kanye West, Alicia Keys, the Who, and other superstar acts, prompted a wave of social-media complaints that scalpers are profiting from an event aimed at helping storm victims. StubHub said last week that it would donate proceeds to concert sponsor the Robin Hood Relief Fund and give individual sellers an online option to contribute their profits to Sandy aid.
