Top Giver Druckenmiller Shifts to Full-Time Philanthropy

August 30, 2010, 1:02 pm

After transferring a quarter of his wealth to his charitable foundation last year, the billionaire financier Stanley F. Druckenmiller is closing his hedge fund to devote more time to philanthropy, Bloomberg writes.

Chairing the board of the Harlem Children’s Zone, a charity that serves disadvantaged children and adults and to which Mr. Druckenmiller gave $25-million in 2006, will be among his chief activities following the shutdown of Duquesne Capital Management, which he announced earlier this month.

Mr. Druckenmiller, with an estimated net worth of $2.8-billion, gave more than $700-million last year to the Druckenmiller Foundation, landing him and his wife, Fiona, atop The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s most recent Philanthropy 50 list of U.S. givers.
