The University of Maryland has received $10-million from the businessman Barry Gossett, primarily to support its sports programs, reports The Washington Post.
The gift was made in the form of a charitable trust, $8-million of which has been designated for use by the athletic department. The remaining $2-million will go toward academic scholarships.
Mr. Gossett, 67, attended classes at the university and is chief executive of Acton Mobile Industries, a Baltimore company that specializes in the building of temporary trailers.
