University Plans to Remove Trustee’s Name From Law School

July 20, 2007, 12:22 pm

The chairman of the Board of Trustees at Roger Williams University has asked the institution to remove his name from its law school, reports The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Ralph R. Papitto made a racial slur during a board meeting, which prompted a wave of criticism and led him to resign from his trustee post.

The dean of the law school, David A. Logan, said the law school’s original name — the Roger Williams University School of Law — will be reinstated. He added, “In coming weeks, all references to the Ralph R. Papitto School of Law will be removed in an appropriate and orderly way.”
