USC in Partnership Talks With Major Los Angeles Museum

December 5, 2012, 10:46 am

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, which has struggled financially for most of the last decade and with internal strife since the summer, is in talks with University of Southern California on what a school official called “a possible partnership,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

University provost Elizabeth Garrett said discussions of ways to “enhance the missions of both institutions” are under way but “very preliminary at this time,” a comment echoed by museum spokesman Lyn Winter. The museum, widely known as MOCA, is reportedly operating under its lowest budget since the 1990s and has drawn criticism in recent months over its programming and priorities under director Jeffrey Deitch.
