A worldwide alliance pressing to raise immunization rates in the developing world is calling on donors to supply another $4.3-billion to meet the group’s goal, reports Reuters.
The Global Alliance on Vaccines and Immunisation said it has collected 40 percent of the $7-billion it says could save 1 million children by 2015. The money would finance a full range of vaccines to fight preventable diseases and would introduce other treatments in 40 poor countries.
The Alliance, which is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Unicef, the World Bank, the World Health Organization, and vaccine makers, is asking current and potential donors to attend a conference in the Hague this month.
