Warhol Foundation Launches Art Liquidation With $17-Million Sale

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts raised more than $17-million Monday in the first of a series of auctions aimed at selling off its entire stock of works by the late artist, says the Associated Press. The foundation announced plans in September to liquidate its collection of Warhols to boost its endowment and grant-making to arts groups.

Monday’s sale at Christie’s featured 354 Warhol pieces, some never before seen publicly. More works will go to auction online starting in February.
