Watchdog Group Says Jeb Bush Charity Aiding Corporate Donors

An advocacy group is accusing former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s education foundation of working to shape the state’s schools policies for the benefit of its corporate supporters, writes the Orlando Sentinel.

In the Public Interest, a Washington-based watchdog on privatization and government contracting, posted thousands of e-mails on its Web site that it claims show the Jeb Bush Foundation “distorting democracy” by writing or helping craft legislation that benefits donors such as testing firm Pearson.

A foundation spokesman called the allegations “beyond ridiculous” and characterized In the Public Interest as a “union-backed organization” opposed to the Bush group’s nationally influential school-reform efforts.
