Wisc. City Gets No Takers in Plea for Nonprofit Payments

Officials in Racine, Wisc., have received no positive responses to an appeal to 182 local nonprofit organizations for voluntary contributions in lieu of property taxes, the city’s Journal Times newspaper writes. Mayor John Dickert sent a letter to churches and charities in September soliciting payments for provision of police, snow-plowing, and other services, but the city administrator, Tom Friedel, said Friday that no money has been collected through the program, called “Racine’s Fair Share.”
