In its latest effort to expand its fund-raising services globally, the Charleston, S.C., nonprofit software company Blackbaud announced on Thursday that it has acquired RLC, a privately owned software company in Almere, the Netherlands.
Blackbaud paid $2.38-million for RLC, a small company with 25 employees. Its Dutch-language products are used by 80 of the largest charities in the Netherlands, including Greenpeace, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, and the Asthma Fund. RLC software enables nonprofit groups to track relationships with donors and members and to process their contributions electronically.
Blackbaud, which has been publicly traded since 2004, has spent the last three years acquiring other software companies and expanding its offerings overseas. Currently it serves 2,500 nonprofit organizations outside the United States.
The company hired a vice president of international business development in December 2007 and has since developed a Spanish-language version of eTapestry — which provides donor-tracking software for small to midsize nonprofit organizations — after purchasing the company for $25-million.
Blackbaud has also developed Blackbaud Enterprise CRM, a software platform designed for charities with multiple locations; the software can be customized for each location using differing languages and currencies.
