SENIOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Based in the New York City Metro Area and Working From a Home Office

Overview

Conservation International (CI - www.conservation.org) has retained us to find a skilled Development professional to serve as their Senior Regional Development Director for the Northeastern US and Florida. The position's purpose is to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward new prospects and current donors living in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusettes, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Florida in order to meet established revenue goals. The principal fundraising will be focused in New York, Massachusetts, Connnecticut, New Jersey and Florida, however, there is the expectation that the Senior Director will work to develop a regional program in the larger region by working with existing donors and prospects.

Key Responsibilities

·Work closely with area volunteers, the Senior Managing Director of Major Gifts, the VP of Development and CI's Senior Leadership team.

·responsible for achievement of short-term and long-term fundraising goals, specifically solicitations ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 annually and multi-year commitments in support of CI. The annual portfolio is expected to grow from $2.1 million annually to $5 million within three years.

·The Senior Regional Development Director will work closely with CI HQ staff, CI program staff and regional volunteers to plan and a variety of cultivation events both large and small. The Senior Regional Development Director will also lead the fundraising for CI's annual New York Gala while working in close partnership with CI's Special Events team and regional volunteers.

·The Senior Regional Development Director manages a portfolio of approximately 100-150 major donors and prospects.

·Meet annual revenue goals of $2 million for donors based in the Northeastern US and Florida. (revenue goal will be set annually in accordance with FY revenue budget.) Solicit a minimum of 50 gifts from donors/prospects. Provide monthly progress reports of all activities.

·Identify and cultivate (2-3/month) new major donor prospects with Campaign Research Ratings of $50,000 and above. Make 96-120 visits that result in forward progress toward the solicitation of a donor or prospect. Develop and execute cultivation strategies for 24 (2/month) prospects. In partnership with CI Senior Leadership, Key Volunteers and Local Board members, support the cultivation and solicitation of 3-5 multi-year gift requests.

·Work closely with CI Development Events staff to execute one large annual gala in New York and develop three small cultivation events in NY and other locations within region per year. This includes the identification of potential guests, pre and post-event donor cultivation and solicitation.

·Work closely with the Senior Managing Director of Major Gifts and the VP of Development to support the cultivation of CI Board Members and Chairman's Council members in the region.

·Supervision and Professional Development. Supervise (jointly with another Senior Regional Director) one Devlopment Associate. Join the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Attend one professional development seminar focused on Gift solicitation.

Qualifications

·Four year degree minimum. Educational background or demonstrated experience in Natural Resources, Environmental studies or International Development would be a plus.

·Minimum of 5 years of fundraising experience specifically in the solicitation of major gifts. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and solicit significant gifts of $100K or more. Experience working with board members and key volunteers in the cultivation of prospects.

·Desire and ability to work within a dynamic environment.

· Experience using Microsoft office suite and working with a fundraising database.

·Exceptional verbal and written communications as well as skilled in making individual and group presentations.

·The ability to work from a home office.

·25%-50% regional travel required.
