POSITION DESCRIPTION
Executive Director, Delta Kappa Epsilon International
Fraternity
The Executive Director manages the day-to-day headquarters
operations of a 166-year old men's college fraternal organization.
The organization has over 35,000 initiated members worldwide, with
50 collegiate chapters and colonies and 25 alumni groups across
North America. The full-time position is based in Ann Arbor, MI,
but could be managed remotely. The Executive Director reports to
the Delta Kappa Epsilon Board of Directors.
The Executive Director must be a self-motivated strategic thinker;
must be an excellent leader who relates well to college-age men;
and must demonstrate ethical behavior above reproach in their
professional and personal life. The Executive Director must be
committed to carrying out the directives of the Board. They must be
an outstanding representative for DKE when dealing with internal
and external constituencies, and must have experience in speaking
publicly to groups ranging in size from 10-300. The Executive
Director must be passionate about Delta Kappa Epsilon, and must be
able to communicate the DKE "story" to alumni, undergraduates, and
other stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
1.Must have knowledge of collegiate fraternities
2.Must have a 4-year college degree
3.Must have the ability to travel (50%, including some
weekends)
4.Must be skillful at inspiring trust and confidence through
skillfully building relationships with collegiate and alumni
members
5.Must be able to manage multiple projects and time well; must have
a strong work ethic and high energy level; and must be able to
adapt well to frequent change
6.Must possess superior oral and written communication skills
7.Must be able to think creatively and analytically
Preferred Qualifications:
1.Advanced degree in higher education, non-profit management, or
related field
2.Previous professional employment in non-profit association
management
3.Alumni experience or involvement with DKE as a volunteer
4.Familiarity with database management and direct mail
fundraising
5.Technologically savvy with respect to communications (websites,
social media)
Position Description:
The position involves the management of the business office of the
International Fraternity. The Executive Director is responsible
for:
1)Managing the financial, administrative, personnel, public
relations, and business aspects of the Fraternity;
2)Managing the development and delivery of programs and services
for our undergraduate Chapters;
3)Cultivating strong relationships with DKE undergraduates, DKE
alumni and alumni associations (including fundraising);
4)Developing relationships and working with college administrators
at the schools where Deke Chapters are located;
5)Developing relationships within the Interfraternity world;
and
6)Being a strong leader of young men and helping them develop
leadership skills themselves.
Specific Responsibilities:
1Initiate, develop and maintain cooperative relationships with key
constituents such as the DKE Club of New York, the Rampant Lion
Foundation, DKE alumni associations, DKE individual alumni, DKE
undergraduate members, college/university officials, members of the
Greek community, and external product and service
representatives
2Manage the Headquarters Staff including hiring, training,
supervising, evaluating, terminating, and leading and motivating
the staff in developing and delivering programs and services to
meet the needs of Delta Kappa Epsilon.
3Develop office structure, staffing needs, job descriptions
4Communicate regularly with the Board of Directors
5Develop and implement programs to execute the DKE Strategic
Plan
6Manage the administrative functions of the Headquarters
office
7Withe the Board of Directors, develop, implement, and monitor the
annual operating budget
8Constantly look for and institute cost cutting and streamlining
measures for operational and financial efficiency
9Ensure completion of filing of all tax returns and other required
state, provincial, and federal documents
10Attends the biennial Convention, Board meetings including
conference calls, and other DKE and inter-fraternal meetings or
events
11Represents DKE to external entities, including the media, for
public relations and government relations purposes and serves as
one of the organization's representatives to other fraternal
organizations and university administrations
12Solicit volunteers regarding assisting with Fraternity needs;
motivate and organize those volunteers
13Develop a complete understanding of the risk management issues
facing Greek organizations today
14Become familiar with university systems and the trends in higher
education, and understand how those trends impact the Fraternity
system
Travel and Compensation
1The position will involve frequent travel to Deke Chapters and to
alumni association events and functions
2Compensation will be commensurate with experience and skill
level
