Covenant House Washington ISO a DIRECTOR OF FINANCE.
PURPOSE OF POSITION: The incumbent serves as Chief Financial
Officer and has day-to-day responsibility for the accounting,
financial reporting, budgeting, general insurance and cash
management activities of CHW. Incumbent's efforts shall be
conducted in a manner which reflects the mission, philosophy and
policies of Covenant House.

RESPONSIBLE TO: The Executive Director
SUMMARY OF DUTIES (Responsibilities to include but not limited to
the following:)
· Responsible for accounting for all CHW income, donated items and
services, expenditures, assets and liabilities. Oversees
maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts
receivable, cash position and payroll systems. Reviews accounting
data to ensure that the correct accounting treatment is
accorded.
· Ensures that effective internal control systems are in place and
that accounting desk procedures are followed.
· Performs financial analyses as warranted.
· Oversees the timely production of accurate financial reports
including detailed management monthly reports, quarterly reports to
the parent organization, financial reports to funding agencies and
annual financial statements produced in accordance with GAAP for
nonprofit organizations.
· Ensures that an accurate payroll is produced in compliance with
all tax requirements on time every other week.
· Ensures compliance with all state and local tax requirements
including production of W-2s, 1099s, 990s and that withholding and
payment of taxes complies with legal requirements.
· Implements an activity-based costing system to identify and
report to management the costs of the various services provided by
CHW.
· Ensures compliance with all requirements related to financial
management and reporting for state and local government grants and
contracts and other grants/contracts as applicable.
· Maximizes the revenue available from government grants and
contracts by timely invoicing and effective management of
receivables.
· Coordinates CHW's annual financial audit process, A-133 audits
and other financial and/or internal audits.
· Oversees purchasing activities, manages control of inventories
and oversees preparation of disbursements to vendors.
· Manages investment of available cash balances, maintains a cash
forecast and maximizes earnings according to CHW investment
policies.
· Ensures an effective fixed asset system is in place to value and
control fixed assets, including donated fixed assets.
· Oversees the monthly closing process and ensures accuracy of all
financial records.
· Manages the development of the annual operating and capital
budgets, produces budget status reports, analyses, financial
projections and ratio analysis as needed.
· Monitors performance of financial institutions.
· Oversees CHW risk management program in conjunction with the CH
Insurance Broker.
· Staffs the CHW Board Committee on Finance.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: This position supervises the Accounting
staff.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Regular internal contact with all CHW staff, frequent and regular
outside contact with vendors and suppliers, outside agencies, the
public and the community.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree in
Accounting or Business Preferred, CPA Preferred
Experience: Trained in accounting theory. Seven to ten years
experience with non-profit accounting and budgeting.
Five years experience in Management/Supervisory role
Experienced with Parent and Affiliated structured
organizations
Knowledge:
Knowledgeable of the requirements for managing government grants
and
experience in cash management.
Ability to conceptualize the effects of transactions and accounting
controls
on the overall accounting system.
Excellent analytical and spreadsheet skills, including Excel.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer service focus.
Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and to work well
under pressure.
Strong organizational and planning skills.

·Moderate noise level.
·Moderate sitting, walking, standing and eye strain, light lifting
and bending.
