Built in 1907, the Garfield Park Conservatory is the third largest in the world. The Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, formed in 1995 with a four-year start-up grant from the Wallace-Reader's Digest Funds, is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Chicago Park District to revitalize the Conservatory through new programs in education, community greening and visitor experience. Primary Responsibilities The Director of Development will plan and direct the full range of development and communication activities for the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance with an emphasis on creating an aggressive plan to develop a new capital campaign, solicit major gifts including annual, individual contributions above $1,000+ and corporate contributions above $2,500; and expand the current Alliance Membership Program. The Director will develop and implement a stewardship program for individual and corporate donors that will include cultivation events, special programs, and a gift-recognition policy. The Director, working with the Alliance Marketing Communications Committee and the Chicago Park District public relations office, will oversee the organization's external communications to the public including media, donors and members. Reporting to the President of the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance, the Director of Development is a key member of the management team and will work closely with the Chairman of the Board of Directors as well as other Board members for training and development. The Director of Development also functions as the liaison to the Board fundraising committees in support of the organization's fundraising efforts; and works very closely with Director of Finance and Administration on accurate fundraising reports as well as the Director of Programs & Interpretation on implementation of programmatic fundraising goals. Secondary Responsibilities The Director of Development will supervise the work of the Development Coordinator who is responsible for memberships, individual gifts (up to $1,000), and corporate gifts (up to $2,500); and the Grants Coordinator who is responsible for all proposal writing and reporting.
