Development Manager - Major Gifts
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New
York invites applications for the full-time position of Development
Manager. The Development Manager will strategically develop and
implement an aggressive fundraising program for the College with
principal emphasis on major gifts. The Manager is responsible for
all aspects of major gift and planned giving fund raising for the
College, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and
stewardship of individuals, private corporations and
foundations.
The Manager will participate in the establishment of major gifts
fundraising goals for the College and is charged with implementing
these goals in coordination with the goals and objectives of the
City Tech Foundation. The Manager serves as a liaison with other
areas of development and alumni relations as well as campus
programs, and will work in close coordination with the City Tech
Foundation and its Board of Directors.
The Manager serves on the campaign leadership team and will work
with the director of development, Foundation board, alumni
association, senior administrators, faculty and fundraising
volunteers in the planning and execution of the major gifts
program. A significant portion of the time of the Manager will be
spent external to the College, in visits to identified major gift
prospects.
Reporting directly to the Special Assistant to the President for
Institutional Advancement, the Manager will:
- Collaborate with the Special Assistant to the President for
Institutional Advancement and the Director of Development in the
formulation of fundraising goals and priorities.
- Play an active role in designing and implementing a comprehensive
strategy to increase giving for all areas of major gift fundraising
including planned giving and a planned major gifts campaign around
significant new construction soon to begin.
- Personally manage and oversee a portfolio of major gift prospects
between 100-125 donors and prospects capable of making gifts of
$5,000 and above.
- Present an annual plan for major donors and prospects, and
quarterly reporting on progress. Cultivate, solicit and secure
major gifts from individuals, corporations and private
foundations.
- Manage major gifts donor acknowledgment, recognition and
stewardship.
- Participate in creation of solicitation and marketing materials
for major gifts. Perform related work as assigned by the Special
Assistant to the President for Institutional Advancement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred; minimum of
six years (6) of successful experience in fundraising or comparable
transferrable experience; experience in major gift fundraising,
preferably in a higher educational institution environment; and
record of success in soliciting and closing major gifts. Capital
campaign experience preferred. Ability to articulate the mission
and purposes of New York City College of Technology to prospective
donors. Experience with Raiser's Edge and related software
applications a plus. Ability to communicate effectively, both
orally and in writing. Strong self-motivation, interpersonal skills
and ability to establish and maintain good working relationships
with prospects, donors, deans, and faculty. Ability to work as a
team member with College Deans, Department Chairs and
Directors.
The Director should have:
- Knowledge and experience in both planned giving and capital
campaigns
- Ability to persuade and influence others, use independent
judgment and perform tasks on own initiative, many of which have no
precedent. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment as well
as work effectively in a team setting
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
- Ability to develop and implement short- and long-term goals and
plans as well as develop and maintain recordkeeping systems.
- Frequent travel within New York City and attendance at evening
and weekend events required.
