Amherst College invites applications for an Associate Director
of Donor Relations. Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations,
this position is primarily responsible for overseeing the Founders
Society, the donor recognition society for the college's $1
million+ donors, and for developing programs to better engage its
mid-level donors and prospects.
The specific duties will include working with the Director to
implement stewardship plans for the college's top donors and
developing reports on the use and impact of their contributions.
The Donor Relations team is starting to develop more visually
creative and compelling ways to recognize and honor donors and will
look to the Associate Director to bring energy and new ideas to
this effort.
The position requires close collaboration with the Leadership
Giving and Annual Fund teams to develop and manage stewardship
strategies for mid-level donors, determining better ways to
recognize their contributions and to engage them more fully in
Amherst. Mid-level donors are an increasingly important audience
for the overall development team at the college. In addition to
collaborating with Advancement colleagues, the Associate Director
will need to work closely with key constituents across campus such
as the Dean of Faculty's office, academic departments, the
Treasurer's office and others for overall donor stewardship.
The Associate Director will develop and manage events, including
the annual Founders Society dinner. The position is also
responsible for organizing dedications and production of plaques
related to donor recognition on campus. The Associate Director will
also write reports, correspondence and strategic plans as part of
the overall responsibilities of the position.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and the
names and contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone
numbers) of three professional references. A review of applications
will begin immediately and continue until the position is
filled.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years experience in
advancement, preferably in donor relations with an academic or
comparable non-profit organization. Experience must also include
program management responsibilities. Excellent written,
communication and interpersonal skills required. Strong planning
and organizational skills also required. This is a full-time
position with occasional evening and weekend work required.
