Chief Executive Officer

 

The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) invites applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  Established in 1885, AAHPERD is an alliance of professional associations providing leadership in health, physical education, recreation, sport, and dance.  With headquarters in Reston, Virginia (near Washington, D.C.), the Alliance has a membership of approximately 22,000 professionals.

 

The CEO is the chief operating officer, with full responsibilities for the performance of the headquarters staff.  The CEO works with the staff and elected leaders in performing duties as determined by the Board of Governors.

 

Qualifications:

 

*An earned doctorate (or equivalent professional experience)

*Five years of managerial and administrative experience in planning, supervision, and fiscal management

*Five years of executive level administrative experience

*Successful experience in external resource fundraising and development

*Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

*A high standard of professional integrity

*Leadership ability in supervising a diverse 80-member staff

*Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and work cooperatively with elected volunteer leaders

*Commitment to social justice and diversity

*Ability to maintain and promote positive relationships with liaison organizations

*An understanding of the HPERD professions and AAHPERD
