Position: Director of Development, College of Health Sciences

The Director of Development, College of Health Sciences acts as a liaison between University Advancement and the College, leading and coordinating academic engagement and fundraising efforts for University Advancement. Working with UA leadership and the dean, (s)he develops and implements the fundraising strategy for the college. The Director maintains a portfolio of major gift prospects and interacts regularly with other University Advancement fundraisers whose prospects have interest in college priorities; the Director leads the other fundraisers in the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of these prospects. Other responsibilities include ensuring that UA colleagues are trained and prepared to promote the colleges' priorities; attending alumni engagement events; and other duties that further relationships between the college, University Advancement, and alumni and benefactors of the University.

Responsibilities:
·Serves as the primary liaison between UA, as its representative, and the college, building and furthering relationships between the two entities as a whole, and also between the Director of Development and the college's faculty and staff.
·Develops and executes, in conjunction with Senior Director of Development, College Advancement and Dean a fundraising business plan for each college. Partners with the Dean and college faculty on developing strategic fundraising priorities; this may include participating in college strategic planning processes.
·Develops fundraising strategy for the college and helps identify prospects for the college's priorities. Manages the strategies for the top prospects of the college, and leads engagement activities for said prospects (i.e., college advisory council), as appropriate.
·Manages a portfolio of major gift prospects (i.e., prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $25,000 or more) and builds relationships with the University's alumni and donors, which may include occasional travel. Makes personal gift solicitations of these prospects and directs a solicitation to all prospects in portfolio for the university annual fund. Records all contact with prospects and college's contact with prospects in UA prospect management system.
·Acts as the initial point person for faculty or staff on requests for solicitation, particularly for Corporate and Foundation Relations.
·Plans and coordinates Advancement Vice President meetings between Dean and Senior Director of Development, College Advancement and facilitates follow-up activity and reporting.
·Meets regularly with Senior Director of Development, College Advancement to assess projects, review strategies and track progress toward meeting fundraising performance benchmarks and benchmarks associated with colleges' fundraising business plans.
·Plays a key role in crafting and coordinating University Advancement training and information sessions for college's faculty and staff, and leads the Dean and faculty in preparing for presentations to University Advancement.
·Serves as the colleges' expert for colleagues in University Advancement, and in conjunction with development communications staff, creates materials about the College for fundraisers and solicitation.
·Collaborates with fundraisers, alumni engagement teams, and others in the UA-college partnership to make strategic use of the Dean's time for cultivation and solicitation of donors; manages Dean's travel calendar for fundraising.
·Meets with the Dean weekly and attends all appropriate meetings within the college, including select meetings with associate deans and department chairs or staff in the colleges.
·Participates in weekly College Advancement team meetings, UA monthly staff meetings and UA halftime staff retreats.
·Attends select college alumni association events and other alumni engagement events, often during the evenings and weekends; participates as a planning team member in college Alumni Awards, Golden Jubilee, and Reunions programs.
·Plans an annual budget. Staffs and supervises projects as assigned and shares management of a support staff person.
·Keeps office hours in both colleges and in University Advancement.

Qualifications:

Education:
The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree from accredited college or university. A master's degree in Public Administration or Business Administration is preferred.

Experience:
The ideal candidate has five years of sales or fundraising experience in higher education, including a successful fundraising track record of working a portfolio of prospects and securing major gifts. Other development-related experience, including volunteer management, event management and strategic planning, is desirable. The candidate will ideally have had experience with or an understanding of the laboratory and clinical sciences, or the healthcare profession. (S)he has strong verbal and written communication skills and experience in messaging and branding, especially in an academic setting. The candidate must be able to work with colleagues across the University and establish and foster relationships that encourage a collaborative work environment. S(he) has strong organizational skills, pays attention to detail and has the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
