Organization: Bronx H.S. of Science Endowment Fund, Inc.

Since its founding in 1938, The Bronx High School of Science has developed a worldwide reputation as one of the best high schools in the United States, attracting a diverse array of gifted students from across New York City.

The Bronx H.S. of Science Endowment Fund, Inc. is an independent 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to:
·Raising major gifts, primary among alumni, for capital and program expenditures and for scholarship and endowment funds.
·Providing financial aid to the school in order to facilitate academic and extracurricular programming.
·Working closely with the Alumni Association to build a sense of community among the school's 35,000 alumni

The Executive Director position requires experience, organization and management skills, together with leadership qualities, to lead the Endowment Fund to a new level of fund raising and effectiveness. The person in this position will be the liaison to the Board and a crucial communicator with alumni who are interested in making major gifts and planned gifts to the Bronx High School of Science.

In addition to a proven track record of successful fund raising, with an ability to "raise the bar" annually, the Executive Director will possess excellent leadership and managerial skills, including volunteer recruitment and retention, board development, previous equivalent P&L responsibility, and a passion for operational excellence.

The Executive Director must be proactive, with superior communication skills and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Managerial skills are also essential, as the Executive Director will create an organizational infrastructure that will restart the Capital Campaign.

Key Tasks


·Work with the Endowment Fund Board to set fund raising priorities that align with the mission, capital campaign plan, and other strategic priorities of the Endowment Fund.
·Develop and implement a comprehensive fund raising program that focuses primarily on major gifts from alumni, and to a much lesser degree on private charitable foundations and corporations.
·Identify and recruit additional volunteer leadership to form a Campaign Committee or appropriate working groups to support the solicitation of prospects.
·Work from current extensive lists of prospects to initiate contacts, and work with Board and volunteer leadership to cultivate and solicit prospects.
·Coordinate planned giving program, including communications with planned giving firm producing annual mailings. Follow-up through letters and phone calls to those expressing interest.
·Maintain tracking system on FileMaker Pro of overall BHSS prospects list and planned giving prospects list; and on Excel of Prospects Pipeline.
·Manage agendas, meetings and communications for/with the Board of Directors.
·Oversee and guide board members and volunteers who are involved in special event fund raising activities, major gifts, planned giving initiatives, scholarship administration and volunteer recruitment/management.
·Reach out to Principal and other staff of Bronx Science, as well as the Alumni Association staff, to coordinate efforts.
·Annually, in conjunction with the Executive Committee of the Board, determine the goals and fund raising targets of the Endowment Fund for the coming year. Compensation and future employment will be contingent on meeting the agreed upon goals.

The Executive Director will be principally responsible for the cultivation of relationships with individual alumni benefactors who have already been identified through the Major Gifts Database and Tracking System, as well attempt to identify additional potential donors.

The Executive Director will be responsible for his/her own administrative, marketing and fund raising support. The Executive Director will maintain his/her own office and will be reimbursed for general office expenses. Travel requirements will include: evening board/committee meetings in mid-town Manhattan, visits to the school to meet with the administration or potential donors, and one-to-one meetings with potential donors at various locations in the tri-state area. The Executive Director should encourage a board member to accompany him/her on these visits when appropriate.


Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree; advanced degree preferred..

Experience: At least five years senior-level fund raising experience, preferably with a New York region nonprofit organization. Clear experience and comfort working with major donors. Management experience in execution of fund raising, capital campaign and strategic plans. Familiarity with ?moves management' to advance major gift prospects from an introductory level to a readiness-to-give level. Ability to close major gifts.

Skills and Qualities: High-level written and verbal skills. The sophistication, intelligence, enthusiasm, and warmth to work with highly successful alumni. Ability to motivate volunteer campaign leaders and support them in their tasks. Attention to detail and ability to coordinate and schedule both ongoing activities and key prospect meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly with alumni and board members.

Conditions: No administrative staff is provided for this position, however volunteers may be trained and managed by the Executive Director. This role will require use of the computer to perform the functions correctly. Travel within the continental US may be required, but will mostly be limited to the metro NYC area. Lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

SALARY
Commensurate with experience.
