Position: Director of Development
Organization: KIPP Academy Lynn
Location: Massachusetts
Date posted: 10/27/2009

Organizational Overview:
KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a network of 82 college-preparatory charter schools serving more than 20,000 students in under-resourced communities throughout the United States. KIPP schools have been widely recognized for creating a new and exciting paradigm in public education, putting low income and minority students on the path to college. KIPP's vision is that, one day, all public schools will foster an environment where students will develop the academic skills, intellectual habits, and character traits necessary to maximize their potential in high school, college, and the world beyond.

KIPP Academy Lynn (KAL) is a charter middle school serving the culturally diverse urban population of Lynn, MA (10 miles North of Boston). Offering an academically rigorous program in grades 5 through 8 that emphasizes being the best and going to college, KAL sets a code of high expectations, strict discipline, and exceptional behavior for its students. Standardized test scores reveal that KIPPsters overcome their initial academic deficits to become the top performers among all schools in Massachusetts with similar demographics and they score in the top 10% of the entire state in both math and ELA by the end of 8th grade.

To meet the needs of Lynn's large and growing population of underserved students for high-quality college-preparatory education, KIPP Lynn plans to add a high school in 2011-2012. When fully enrolled, KAL middle and high schools will serve 850 students in grades 5-12.
