Position: Senior Manager, Major Gifts
Organization: American Association for Cancer Research

Position Description and Responsibilities

· Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual major gift prospects and donors with an emphasis on personal visits.
· Set and attain fundraising goals.
· Substantially increase major gift income.
· Achieve annual revenue goal and assist in meeting departmental goals.
· Develop a strategy and implementation program to expand significantly the prospect pool utilizing effective donor identification and acquisition techniques.
· Actively manage and build individual strategies for all major gift prospects through consistent communication, meaningful recognition and stewardship.
· Develop new ways to more frequently and personally thank and communicate with donors.
· Maintain appropriate donor tracking and activity monitoring systems to ensure that development strategies and successfully implemented.
· Allocate and prioritize time and travel resources for greatest return on investment.
· Build relationships with program staff, communications staff, and others to acquire the information needed to solicit gifts and build donor relationships effectively; to determine investment opportunities for donors who wish to restrict their gift to a specific program area; and to create follow-up reports for donors who request them.
· Listens for and act upon opportunities for gifts of assets or other gift structures beyond outright cash by engaging and collaborating with the Director, Individual and Planned Giving.
· Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising events.
· Perform the essential functions of the position and other tasks as required.

Position Requirements

· BA or BS Degree
· A demonstrated track record of cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts in a higher education, research, or advocacy setting.
· Minimum of three years of demonstrated success as a direct, major gift fundraiser, with increasing levels of responsibility and comfort soliciting five- and six-figure gifts from individuals.
· Understanding of planned giving vehicles.
· A commitment to cancer research.
· Well-developed communication skills, including excellent writing and presentation skills.
· Microsoft Office (including Word, Access, and Excel).
· Working knowledge of PowerPoint.
· Knowledge of donor or membership database management.
· Good proofreading and writing skills.
